On 21–24 October, during a plenary session of the EP in Strasbourg, Vytautas Leškevičius, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, will present the Lithuanian Presidency’s midterm results to the EP Conference of Committee Chairs. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Algimantas Rimkūnas, Vice-Minister of Finance, will participate in the plenary session’s debates and voting on the EP changes to the EU Council’s position regarding the draft general budget for the financial year 2014.
Vice-Minister Leškevičius will also speak during the plenary session on behalf of the EU Council about the e-justice Action Plan 2014–2018, as well as participating in the discussions regarding the appointment of a Croatian member to the European Court of Auditors, and taking part in the award ceremony of the Sakharov Prize to Aung San Suu Kyi (winner in 1990).
The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs will also present to the EP members the EU Council’s position regarding the preparations for the European Council meeting on 24–25 October and the implementation of the 2013 priorities of the European Semester for economic policy coordination. Mr Leškevičius will participate in the discussions regarding the detention of Greenpeace activists in Russia and will sit in for Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in the debates about the situation in the Maldives.
