Pat Cox - Special EP Envoy - Ukraine

Tymošenko – Cox Aims For Berlin Hospital Transfer

October 29, 2013 by Brian Maguire

Pat Cox - Special EP Envoy - Ukraine

The European Parliament’s mission to Ukraine this week will do its best to have Julia Tymošenko transferred to Berlin for hospital treatment in the coming weeks, said Pat Cox, Special Envoy of the European Parliament Monitoring Mission to Ukraine.

Speaking at a COSAC meeting at the Seimas, Lithuania, his presentation titled ‘Parliament Diplomacy: The EP and Ukraine Case Analysis’, Cox emphasised that the signing of the association agreement will become the: “road to modernisation and the second most important event after the 1991 referendum in Ukraine.”

Cox added that even though Ukraine currently does not meet all the EU’s requirements, the objective remains to make all efforts to change the situation to ensure a successful outcome. He added that this: “…parliamentary initiative and high-level political diplomacy will be valuable contributions to completing this mission.”
